Pavements and Materials Engineering

TLB provides pragmatic and cost-effective recommendations on various pavement projects so that airfield and highway agencies can “extend the dollar”. With our Pavements and Materials research programs, we have provided assistance to universities and the Department of Transportation.

TLB has performed pavement evaluations to investigate premature failure in highway pavements. By investigating the cause of pavement failure, we have developed cost-effective and practical recommendations to alleviate the problems and provide a smooth riding surface for vehicles. TLB has performed pavement condition surveys to assist Airport authorities to prioritize their maintenance and rehabilitation needs for taxiways and runways. We have used innovative methods and provided leadership in the reconstruction of the only East-West runway on Washington Dulles International Airport.

TLB provides technical expertise in the petrographic evaluation of concrete and trouble shooting problems involving soils, aggregate, hot mix asphalt, Portland cement concrete and stabilized soils.
